Overview
HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) is the workhorse of the engineering thermoplastics category — chemical-resistant, moisture-proof, impact-tough, and straightforward to machine. In sign applications, HDPE is used for directional sign substrates, routed sign panels, ADA panel backings, bin tags, and outdoor installations where moisture and chemical exposure would degrade wood, steel, or painted aluminum. King ColorCore HDPE distributes color through the full sheet cross-section — routed pockets, V-grooves, and saw-cut edges expose the same color as the face, eliminating edge painting. HDPE does not bond reliably with most standard adhesives; welding or mechanical fasteners are the preferred joining methods for structural assemblies.
Key features
- Through-colored HDPE — routed, saw-cut, and machined edges match face color without painting
- Chemical-resistant to solvents, oils, fuels, cleaners, and salt water — will not rust or corrode
- Impact-tough from -40°F to 180°F service temperature — will not crack or shatter under impact loading
- Moisture-proof — will not swell, rot, delaminate, or absorb water in outdoor or submerged environments
- Fabricates with standard woodworking and metalworking tools — routes, saws, and drills cleanly
- Available in 1/4" and 1/2" × 48" × 96" in Natural and Black
