Overview
HIPS is the most economical thermoform material in the display sheet category. Lighter than ABS at equivalent gauge, it thermoforms at lower temperatures (280–330°F vs. ABS at 300–350°F), which means faster cycle times in vacuum-forming production. The surface accepts UV, solvent, and screen-print inks without adhesion promoter on standard grades. HIPS is not UV-stabilized — suitable for interior and sheltered-only applications. Do not use for exterior signage without a UV-clear overcoat.
Key features
- Most economical thermoform material in the display sheet category — lowest cost per square foot
- Thermoforms at 280–330°F — lower cycle temperatures than ABS for faster vacuum-forming throughput
- Excellent surface quality for UV, solvent, and screen-print ink adhesion
- Lighter than ABS at equivalent gauge — reduces per-unit shipping cost on large display panel runs
- Scores and snaps cleanly for low-cost straight-edge cutting without a saw
- For interior and sheltered use only — not UV-stabilized for outdoor exposure
